Hot Pepper Jam & Prosciutto Grilled Cheese

Hot Pepper Jam & Prosciutto Grilled Cheese

There's grilled cheese, and then there's THIS grilled cheese. Layers of silky prosciutto, creamy melted Havarti, peppery fresh arugula, and a generous spoonfuls of Hot Pepper Jam come together in a golden, buttery sandwich that's equal parts elegant and indulgent. Sweet heat meets savory in every bite — fancy enough for a dinner party appetizer, satisfying enough to call it Tuesday night dinner.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 sourdough bread slices (thick cut)
  • 3 tablespoons Bumbleberry Farms Hot Pepper Jam
  • 4 prosciutto slices
  • 4 ounces Havarti cheese, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup fresh arugula
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 pinch fresh cracked black pepper

STEPS:

  1. Butter the bread: Spread 2 tablespoons butter, softened evenly on one side of each slice of bread. This is your golden crust — don't be shy with it.
  2. Layer the fillings: Flip the bread over and spread 3 tablespoons Bumbleberry Farms Hot Pepper Jam generously on the inside of two slices. Layer 4 ounces Havarti cheese, thinly sliced over the jam, then fold 4 prosciutto slices on top. Top with the remaining bread slices, buttered side facing out.
  3. Grill low and slow: Heat a skillet or cast iron pan over medium-low heat. Place the sandwiches in the pan and cook until the bottom is deep golden brown and the cheese begins to melt, about 4–5 minutes. Flip carefully and cook the other side another 3–4 minutes until golden and the Havarti is fully melted and creamy.
  4. Rest and slice: Remove from the pan. Pile on a generous handful of 0.5 cups fresh arugula and finish with a crack of 1 pinch fresh cracked black pepper. Let rest for one minute before slicing on the diagonal. Serve immediately — ideally with a little extra Hot Pepper Jam on the side for dipping.

NOTES:

Cheese swaps: Gruyère or fresh mozzarella work beautifully in place of Havarti.

Make it an appetizer: Cut into small triangles and serve on a board alongside extra Hot Pepper Jam for dipping.

Like your Arugula soft rather than crispy? Add the arugula before grilling.

No arugula? Fresh basil is a lovely substitute and adds a slightly sweeter herbal note.
